The Charlottesville Free Clinic hosted its annual volunteer recognition and appreciation picnic on May 25 at the Carter Mountain Orchard. In addition to highlighting the work of our amazing volunteers involved with all facets of the clinic, we presented our first Volunteer Emeritus Award. This award will be given periodically to recognize a retiring Free Clinic volunteer. The recipient was none other than Dr. David “Sheffer” Clark, an Internist who ran his own practice in West Virginia and retired in Charlottesville. Sheffer began volunteering with the CFC in 1998 and “retired” last year. Sheffer’s love of learning and sharing his knowledge and wisdom with other CFC volunteers remains a highlight of his tenure. As a fellow volunteer remarked, “The Charlottesville Free Clinic truly gives more than it takes from its volunteers. Sheffer is the ultimate example of this. I am both a better physician and a better person for my time spent with him.”
Thank you, Sheffer, for your dedication and volunteerism to the CFC!
