As adults, we remember the great toys we received at Christmas. No doubt, the gift of a new bike was the very best.
Remember getting on that bike for the first time and sailing down the hills, flying like a soaring eagle?
It’s hard to conceive in this age of affluence that there are many families among us who cannot afford any toys for their children, much less a new bike. As mentioned last week, there will be a Toy Lift at Wal-Mart (in Ruckersville) on Friday Dec. 2. There is also one at Fashion Square Mall in Charlottesville. The word is out that they are far short of reaching their goal of being able to provide new bikes to all the kids that have asked for one.
So rather than dropping by a toy, or maybe in addition to dropping off a toy, bring your check book and be generous. Wal-Mart is offering the Toy Lift people the same super deal they offered the public on Black Friday and will slash prices for new bikes.
There are many wonderful charities and non-profits worthy of our consideration, but few places can bring a smile to a child like the gift of a new bike for Christmas.
Drop off your toys/checks this Friday at either Fashion Square Mall in Charlottesville or at Wal-Mart in Ruckersville.
If you are unable to stop by, mail your contribution to Toy Lift Charities, PO Box 53, Ruckersville, VA 22968 or Toy Lift Charities, PO Box 6762, Charlottesville, VA 22906.
