I paid 89 cents a gallon at the gas pump this week. Filled my Jeep up for less than $20, and the tank was bone dry.
How?
I do most of my shopping at Kroger’s, and if you buy enough groceries, they give you a kick back on gas at the pump. I don’t know exactly how it works, but they keep track of your purchase when you use your Kroger Card. Sometimes, I just get a dime off per gallon, but that’s better than full price. Once I got 50c off per gallon, but this time I got a full dollar off.
It was like buying gas in 1976, when Carter was president and gas was that low, except you had to wait in line and could only buy a half tank on certain days of the week.
Most communities are blessed to have so many good grocery stores. In Richmond, there are more grocery stores than lawyers, and the state capitol is filled with those fellows.
There are probably too many grocery stores. The competition is fierce and you know that the grocery store business is labor intensive. Also, imagine how much meat and produce they have to throw away each day? I’m glad I’m not in that business, but I’m thankful for Kroger’s. They have very competitive prices, I enjoy using their self-checkout registers. I never have to wait and I believe their meat and produce are as good as any. I shop there so often, all the managers know my name. Sometimes other customers will come to me and want to know which aisle the popcorn is on – and I tell them.
But really, when is the last time you paid 89c for a gallon of gas? Shop Kroger’s and you, too, can save on gas.
