The James
Since 1999 we have guided our home water, the James and know it well. Lynchburg is the southern-most stretch west of the fall line. We focus most closely on the stretches within 40 miles of Lynchburg in each direction. If you are looking to fish the James, we can guide you so you can enjoy its beauty as we work to put you on fish.
The James is historically well-known for smallmouth bass and muskie. We target muskie in the early winter, late spring and again in the fall, giving them a rest during their spawn and during their more vulnerable summer months.
Every river has cycles and the James is no exception. Currently there are sections where it is still strong, and others where weak spawns have reduced counts. The flip side is that one can catch large smallmouth in those low fish count years as there is less competition for food.
The Jackson
Fly fish the beautiful Jackson River with an experienced Angler’s Lane guide. Utilizing our five properties spread along the Jackson River, our experienced guides work to put you on fish and ensure that you enjoy Virginia’s most scenic floatable river for wild rainbow and brown trout. For overnight or multi-day trips use our private lodge, a short cast or “Stonesthrow” from the river. Only 30 minutes from The Omni Homestead or The Greenbrier resorts, we have fished the river since 1992, have guided there since 2005, and logged more trips than any other guide service on it. Anglers Lane is licensed to guide the public landings managed by the US Forest Service.
Staunton River
Anglers Lane has guided more days on the Staunton River than any other guide service, having started in 1999. We know the river intimately and own properties along the river and have access to others along the entire 40 miles from Leesville Dam to Brookneal. While “in the eyes of fish all men (and women) are equal,” we are confident we can give you a memorable trip on the Staunton.
