Another golf year is in the rear view mirror as cold weather settles in for a few months. But it sure would be nice to practice up for next spring – correct that ugly slice, work on your lob wedge and other clubs.
This is all possible at the Highlands Practice Facility in Ruckersville.
Highlands offers a great place to practice even in winter. The tee stations are covered and heated, so you can tee it up no matter how cold.
The Highlands is a picturesque golf park where players can go to practice every shot in their bag, The Highlands Golf Park has been selected as a “Top 100 Golf Range” on several occassions. The facilities include a fully lighted golf range, 44 grass and mat tee stations, a practice putting green, a pitching and chipping area, as well as bunkers and uneven lie mounds. Also on site are a fine pro shop with new and used equipment, sheltered and heated areas.
Gretchen Scheuermann, a third generation in a family of golf professionals, is an owner, LPGA Teaching and Club Professional, and the Director of Golf and Head Pro at The Highlands.
“We really have a teaching center here at The Highlands,” Gretchen said. “Our facilities allow golfers to work on all phases of their game while having fun at the same time.”
Gretchen Scheuermann comes from a family of golfers. Her grandfather, Leslie Mercer, was a teaching golf pro and served as a longtime committeeman of the U.S. Golf Association. Of Scottish descent, Mr. Mercer worked diligently to make the game of golf available to all. His daughter and Gretchen’s mother, Anne Marie, followed in her father’s footsteps and taught for many years. Gretchen continues the tradition and has earned the reputation as one of the finest teaching professionals in Central Virginia.
“Many golfers – both men and women – are more comfortable with a woman teacher,” Gretchen said. “Perhaps they are not as intimidated or they appreciate the style of communication and level of patience that a woman teacher has.”
Gretchen knows how to teach the game of golf. She recognizes that every swing and every golfer is unique. Gretchen allows golfers to learn and practice in a relaxing, comfortable, non-intimidating atmosphere.
Located on Route 29, about a mile north of Ruckersville and about 10 minutes from Airport Road, The Highlands Golf Park brings the golf course to the golfers.
