If you haven’t played Swannanoa golf course in a while, you’re in for a surprise. In previous years, you could give a downhill putt a good rap and often leave it short. Not anymore. The greens at Swannanoa are now fast and quick, and there are no more mysterious bumps on the surfaces. They have really improved the course.
Last year, during the Chinese Virus (it came from China, you know), a lot of courses closed or installed super tight rules. Not Swannanoa. They had “her” wide open, and players flocked to the scenic mountain course. The infusion of cash was just what the doctor ordered. Swannanoa invested back into the course, especially the greens. Instead of wire, it’s bent grass. The fairways also got a healthy dose of fertilizers, and they are in the best shape I’ve seen them.
The sand traps still leave much to be desired. But they are working on them, tee boxes, too.
Swannanoa is a friendly course. The staff welcomes you like they’re glad you came. Some nearby courses treat players like they’re doing them a favor letting you play. Not Swannanoa. They call everybody, “Honey.”
I’ve always liked Swannanoa, even as a billy-goat course. There are several vistas that are breath-taking, and it’s not a difficult course, even for those of us who can’t hit it 250 yards. I had a good round, shot well and really marveled at the new greens.
I only hope they keep the prices reasonable. It’s always been a fun place to play a round of golf, but especially now.
