Every golfer is aware of the hundreds of courses and opportunities to swing a club at Myrtle Beach. But closer to home and with weather almost as nice as the Grand Strand is Nags Head and the Outer Banks. There are some very nice courses available.
The Pointe, for example, is just north of the Wright Memorial Beach along US Hwy 158 crossing onto the Outer Banks.
Another 10 miles up the highway is the Carolina Club. Both are open to the public and both offer bent grass greens. If you don’t have room to drag the clubs along, both courses offer club rentals.
Number 3 at the Carolina Club is a Par Three island green, similar to TPS Sawgrass, a challenging hole with swirling winds.
The Nags Head Golf Links is another excellent venue. Located at 5615 Seachase Drive in Nags Head, the 18 hole, par 71 setup offers a links experience over 6,126 yards of Bermuda fairways and bent grass greens. With views of the sound, the scenery is second to none.
The Sea Scape Golf Links in Kitty Hawk is a spectacular layout. I was able to play this course a couple years ago and it was most challenging – lots of places to lose balls and I found most of them. Nice course, though, with lovely scenery. The Kilmarlic Golf Club at Powell’s Point and The Currituck Club in Corolla provide other opportunities to tee it up on the Outer Banks, so bring your clubs and hit a few.
