Last week, I was finally able to talk my regular golf buddies into a round at Harrisonburg’s Heritage Oaks. After our round, both Kevin and Greg were left admiring the fun and friendly course and we all shot good rounds,
Heritage Oaks, about 65 minutes from Charlottesville, is owned and operated by the City of Harrisonburg. The course is player friendly with wide fairways and large rolling greens. It is a short course from the front tee boxes, with overall distances measuring from 4500 to 6325 yards. The tee boxes are as nice as any course you’ll play.
The staff is always friendly, The ranger stopped by several times to chat and admire and compliment any good shots. He said they will soon be getting their ABC license which will open up tournaments and other venues that would require the sale of beer.
Heritage Oaks was voted Best of the Valley in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015. It is a both a challenging and scenic course for golfers of all abilities. Designed by William Love, Heritage Oaks offers a wide variety of holes including links-style holes as well as traditional, tree-lined holes. Hole number 16 is one of the most interesting in Virginia. A par 5, it requires a nice drive, then a well placed second shot allowing a right-angle short iron across a creek and thick rough up to the green. A booming drive will tempt some golfers to go for the green in two, but many perils await an off target shot. Ask Greg.
Golfers of all abilities will enjoy playing this picturesque par 70 course with four sets of tees on each hole. David Johns is the PGA Professional and Kelly Adams is the Golf Shop Manager.
If you love golf, you simply must devote one round to Heritage Oaks. If you do, you’ll be back.
