Nancy said the other day that she didn’t think we had a Hardee’s anymore in Charlottesville. I knew they had closed the one on 29 N. when the $64 million tunnel effectively put it out of business, but don’t we have another one? Nope. They closed the one on Pantops, as well.
The world, certainly, is going to hell when there are no more Hardees in town.
I remember the first Hardees that came to Charlottesville, back in the early 70’s as memory serves. They were one of the first fast food restaurants to make the breakfast scene. They hired home cooks to bake and deliver biscuits and were they ever good. Later, they baked their own biscuits in house and their Sausage and Egg Biscuits were the best.
What I miss most, though, are their Hot Dogs. Often, on a Sunday night, I’d drive to the nearby Hardees and order a couple Chili Dogs, all the way, with a side of Curly Fries, washed them down with a cold PBR and nothing tasted better. They had really good dogs. Their burgers were good, too, especially those Monster Thick Burgers weighing in at fourteen-hundred calories – but good.
If you want a Hardees’ experience now, you’ll have to drive to Gordonsville, Orange, or Louisa, and that’s a damned shame.
Come back Hardees! We miss you!
