People are starting to go back to restaurants as the Covid Panic subsides. They may be in for a surprise.
Restaurants took a major hit, many didn’t make it, and most lost employees, good employees and they may be slow to return. Expect slow service when you visit a restaurant.
We ate at Vivace’s on Ivy Road this week, a great Italian Restaurant. The food was out of sight, but the service was not up to par. We ate in an outside room with ten tables averaging about 4 people per table. There were two servers and they were slammed. Though the service was slow, our waiter was very professional and accommodating.
Vivace’s, a Charlottesville landmark, opened in 1995 in the main quarters of what was once a peach orchard. They have intimate inside dining and several outside dining rooms. The entrees are all authentic Italian.
We had Calamari as an appetizer and it was as good as it gets. I had their Chicken Marsala – and it was world class with a scrumptious Marsala Sauce. I also ordered a Spinach Salad and I think it was the best salad I have ever eaten. Salads are usually an afterthought, but this was amazing – crisp, fresh spinach with a tantalizing Balsamic Reduction Sauce, Beets, Toasted Walnuts and local Goat Cheese. I devoured every morsel. Nancy had the Short Ribs and was quite pleased.
If you go out to eat – as many are now doing – be patient and understand it will take the restaurant business quite a while to return to normal, but it sure is nice to be able to go out to eat once more, and Vivace’s is open for business.
