So, where’s the best place to eat breakfast in Charlottesville? The big fellas, IHOP and Waffle House, are certainly contenders, but many would argue for a local establishment – the Villa Diner, now located on Emmet Street near the old Lord Hardwicke’s location. Once sited near University Hall, the new location is even easier to access, say some of the regular patrons.
My wife, Nancy, and her gym buddies, Linda Morris and Kay Graves frequently meet at the Villa for breakfast and extended gabfests. They don’t even consider another place. Last Monday that spent two hours there, chatting, eating and sipping hot coffee. Nancy said the place stayed packed.
The Villa Diner is open only for breakfast and lunch, but they serve breakfast anytime, as long as they are open.
Nancy especially enjoys their Corned Beef Hash along with a couple eggs, some toast and juice.
The Villa’s signature breakfast dish is “The Deluxe”, which includes two eggs any style with your choice of bacon, sausage, ham, or corned beef hash, along with toast, biscuits, or English muffin and your choice of hash browns or grits, all for $6.96.
Another popular entrée at $8.95 is The Cavalier Country Breakfast, which includes two egg cooked any style along with a generous slice of (bold) country ham and a choice of hash browns or grits, and toast, English muffin or biscuits.
They also have an excellent lunch menu. Some say they make the best sandwiches in town. For lunch, the Villa offersa variety of fresh homemade, soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. Their pizza is made in-house from the dough to the sauce and ranks among the best in Charlottesville.
The new location is 1250 Emmet St. North. Call them at 434-296-9977. The new hours are 6 am to 4 pm daily. For a breakfast destinationin Charlottesville, the Villa Diner is tough to beat.
