I rarely eat at fast food establishments. I gain a half pound when I drive by a Burger King, so unless I’m on the road or starving, I keep my distance.
Last Tuesday, my golf buddy and I were both on the road and starving. We had just played a round at Tanyard in Louisa, it was 1 PM, and we were hungry. We pulled into a Hardees for an apres golf hot dog (they have really good dogs), but so did 12 other cars ahead of us and the line wasn’t moving. We decided to head for Zion Crossroads and hope for a shorter wait,
We drove by a Bojangles near Spring Creek and there were no cars in the drive-thru line. They didn’t have hot dogs, but the Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich caught our eye, and we ordered a couple.
Everyone, these days, is doing Fried Chicken Sandwiches, a la ChicFilet, the leader of the pack. MacDonald’s has them, KFC has them, Wendy’s has them – all of the fast-food joints have them. But I will say this – none are or could be better than Bojangles. The sandwich had a huge piece of marinated chicken breast, hand-breaded with bold spices, layered with thick dill cut pickles, creamy mayo, and a buttery toasted bun. Even the box was custom-made to preserve the flavor and crispiness. It was scrumptious. The best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had.
I have always enjoyed Bojangles. They do chicken right, and I especially enjoy their red beans and rice as a side.
That Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich was so good, that I’ll no doubt be back – and soon. It is simply the best.
