I was returning from a round of golf with my two amigos, Greg Lefler and Kevin Mann, when the subject of BBQ came up. They both chimed in with, “Have you ever eaten at the Barbeque Exchange in Gordonsville?” I admitted that I had not and they said that I was missing the Barbeque Boat. They each gave it 5 stars. “Their ribs are really good”, Greg said.
Another satisfied patron had this to say: “The mac & cheese and the beans are to die for and the ribs are dry rub and brisket yummy.”
So, though I haven’t yet eaten at the Gordonsville restaurant, I will soon on the basis of those recommendations.
Here is how the owners describe it:
“The Barbeque Exchange in downtown Gordonsville features hickory-smoked and slow-roasted pork shoulders and spareribs. The meats are dry cured with secret ingredient rubs and then cooked in our specialized wood-burning cooker. The Chicken Halves are grilled over live coals akin to the roadside BBQ’s that the Rotary, Kiwanis, and Fire departments have become famous for serving on Saturdays across the Eastern seaboard. These anchors are highlighted with freshly baked rolls, cornbread and pumpkin muffins. Homemade pickles, salads, and slaws are served with the sandwiches, and sides include Brunswick Stew, Donna’s Baked Beans, Hushpuppies, Macaroni and Cheese, and even Collard Greens! And don’t overlook the desserts; we have homemade cupcakes, cookies, and brownies. “
The Barbeque Exchange is located at 102 Martinsburg Ave. the main street though town in Gordonsville. Restaurant hours are from 11 till 8. The phone number is 540-832-0227. You can contact them at events@bbqex.com.
“From hickory-smoked pulled pork to tender pork belly, St. Louis-style dry-rubbed ribs and Andouille Sausage, we’ve got lots of choices for even the most discerning barbecue aficionado.”
Sounds like a road trip to Gordonsville is in order!
