On a recent lovely Saturday evening, Nancy and I decided to go out for a bite and we really wanted to sit outside and enjoy the incredible spring weather and scenery.
We had no reservations, but called Rhett’s and they said they could work us in and we enjoyed a delightful dinner on their side deck. We have known the owner and head chef, Rhett Craddock and his family, for a number of years.
Rhett has been cooking since he was a boy, helping out with family barbeques and get-togethers, but the cooking bug really struck him when he was working in an restaurant part time while attending Radford College.
“I really enjoy cooking,” he said. “I guess it’s in my blood.”
“My goal at Rhett’s is to create a friendly atmosphere where people can enjoy food and the experience of dining out,” he says. “We strive for quality service in a family-friendly atmosphere.”
One of the parts about the cooking business that Rhett enjoys most is catering.
“People are always in a good mood during a cook out,” he notes. “They are there to have a good time and to eat lots of good food.”
Rhett can customize a catering menu to suit most everyone. He has a few openings remaining on his 2012 calendar.
The menu at Rhett’s is an unusual blend of American favorites with a touch of French and southern-style cooking.
The restaurant has become known far and wide for “Rhett’s Signature She Crab Soup.” Other favorites include fresh mussels, shrimp and oysters, plus steaks, chicken, pork, seafood and pasta dishes and the best crab cakes this side of Baltimore.
