My last two dining out experiences were disappointing. Both the Bonefish and Timberwood Grill trips were not up to stuff. In the middle of a hectic week, Nancy and I decided to visit the Texas Roadhouse – our go to place for last minute dining. We pulled up two stools at the bar, ordered and this time we were not disappointed. Texas Roadhouse, once again, came through with flying colors.
Since were having steak the next night, I passed on my favorite Roadhouse entree – the Rib Eye and Grilled Shrimp and went with their Fried Chicken Critters – tender boneless white meat chicken coated in buttermilk then fried until crispy and golden brown. Instead of a plate, they served what appeared to be a platter of Chicken Critters, piping hot and perfectly fried. It was $9.99. I rarely ask for a doggy bag, but I could only eat half of the six large pieces they served.
Nancy ordered The Roadkill, a tasty Hamburger Steak with Mushrooms and Onions and she ate every morsel.
One thing I especially like about the Texas Roadhouse is that they don’t gouge on wine and mixed drink orders. Most restaurants don’t openly advertise drink prices – you sort of have to trust that they won’t gouge, but they absolutely do gouge. Not the Roadhouse. Their House Red Wine, for example, is only $6.99 and their cocktails are always reasonable.
We have over 200 restaurants in Charlottesville with new ones opening each week it seems. They all better stay on top of their games.
