We met family and in-laws for dinner in Richmond last week, and the recommendation was Mama Cucina’s, an Italian restaurant in Glen Allen.
What an experience.
The smallish restaurant is located in a small strip mall on Cox Street. It was unpretentious, but the food and service were phenomenal.
For starters, they bring you all the homemade Italian bread you can handle with a tasty olive oil sauce for dipping. They also serve the salad in a huge bowl, family style, but the best part of the entire meal, for me, was the house salad dressing, Creamy Vinaigrette. Next to Sting Ray’s homemade Blue Cheese Dressing, this was the best salad dressing I have ever had. We liked it so much, we brought two large containers home for future salads.
For an entrée, I chose the Veal St. Anthony, veal sautéed in a wine sauce with mushrooms and topped with prosciutto, tomatoes and mozzarella. A huge side a side of farfalle pasta assured that I wouldn’t go hungry – for maybe two days. Nancy had Shrimp Scampi that she enjoyed and others ordered the Italian Combination with grilled chicken, pork chops, and homemade sausage with Mozzarella and tomato sauce – a specialty at Mama Cucina’s.
We couldn’t even consider dessert, we were so full. And the prices were most reasonable with the large portions.
If in the Richmond area, and assuming you like Italian, give Mama Cucina’s a try. I gave it five stars on YELP.
