Pizza toppings?
For me, it’s bacon, sausage, steak, pepperoni, ham and any other topping suitable for one of the world’s greatest carnivores. Sometimes I’ll sneak a few mushrooms on if no one is paying attention, but I like meat on my pizzas.
Yet…..
A few nights ago we had company and I decided on an easy meal of pizzas and wings.
“What do you like on your pizza?” was my question, before ordering.
“Anything but meat,” was the response.
Houston, we have a problem.
This meant ordering two pizzas, and that meant leftovers and I’m trying to lose a few pounds, and pizza for lunch is not on any of my diets. I then made the executive decision that since I would have a few hot wings, perhaps I could forego meat on my pizza, just this once. I called End Zone Pizza and ordered a large Vegetarian Pizza. I didn’t bother to ask what the veggies were, I just ordered it.
When I picked the pizza up at Forest Lakes, it was huge and smelled divine. I think they put every vegetable grown on North America on the pie and it was terrific.
End Zone is one of my favorite pizzerias. They make their crusts to order and use only fresh ingredients. Their “large pizza” is just that – the biggest in Charlottesville. That veggie pizza was exploding in flavor and if you’re trying to drop a pound or two, onions, tomatoes, broccoli, peppers and mushrooms have far fewer calories than sausage and pepperoni. Not often can I eat pizza for dinner and lose weight the next morning, but this time I did.
For a change of pace, try a Vegetarian Pizza at End Zone Pizza, located at 1764 Timberwood Blvd. at Forest Lakes. Call 434-973-8207 for pickup or delivery.
