My wife, Nancy, found herself out and about at lunchtime last week with nothing to eat. She rode past Arby’s and thought, “Why not?”
That night she said she had a really good lunch at Arby’s and couldn’t remember the last time we ate there. I couldn’t either and I don’t know why. For fast food and quick, easy meals, we often go to a deli, a pizza place or the old faithful MacDonald’s.
That Sunday night, we decided to go pick something up for dinner and I went to Arby’s at Forest lakes. I ordered two Double Roast Beef Sandwiches and they were terrific. With two orders of fries, the tab was less than $10 and I actually lost a little weight the next morning. Lean roast beef is pretty healthy.
Arby’s was founded in 1964 in Boardman Ohio. The owners wanted an alternative to a burger joint and the franchise now includes over 3,300 restaurants. Their signature dish is the Roast Beef Sandwich and with it comes their special sauce, which I love. The “Double” is piled high with roast beef and the ½ pounder has a huge stack of beef.
Arby’s has always been extremely innovative in what has become a highly competitive industry. They were the first to introduce Curly Fries, and then followed with Market Fresh Sandwiches including choices such as Roast Beef and Swiss, Roast Turkey and Swiss, Roast Ham and Swiss, and Roast Chicken Caesar. New additions to the lineup includes Roast Turkey Ranch and Bacon, Italian Beef ‘n Provolone, French Dip ‘n Swiss, Philly Beef Supreme, and Pot Roast] sandwiches and the Ultimate BLT.
While all these sandwiches sound amazing, I think I’ll just stick to the Arby’s Classic Roast Beef Sandwich – always delicious and very economical – and I will be sure to include Arby’s as one of our Sunday night restaurants in the future.
