I had waited an entire year to wolf down a Beach Bully roast beef sandwich. When I had worked my way to the head of the line during last week’s Oyster Festival in Urbanna, I figured while I was there, why not two? So I got two sandwiches, doused them with the special Beach Bully BBQ sauce and savored each bite.
There are dozens and dozens of food vendors each year at the Oyster Festival and I have sampled from nearly all of them. But the one that stands out – to me – is the Beach Bully stand.
Beach Bully is based in Virginia Beach. They have a strong catering business, a restaurant and take their food on the road to places like Urbanna.
I have eaten a lot of smoked beef or brisket sandwiches – including some of the finest in Dallas – but the Beach Bully Sandwich rules! They are incredible.
The sandwich is piled high with thinly sliced and slowly smoked beef brisket. It’s cooked to a nice medium rare and melts in your mouth.
But you don’t have to go to an outdoor festival to get a Beach Bully Sandwich. Try their restaurant in Virginia Beach.
After operating at outdoor festivals for several years, owners Rick Waskey and Chris Merrill opened their first restaurant in March 1986. Beach Bully has a full menu including pork and chicken barbeque, grilled tuna filets and fresh seafood, but I highly recommend their famous “Beach Bully Sandwich”.
Check them out next time you’re in Virginia Beach. Call in orders can be placed at 757-422-4222 or visit them at www.beachbully.com
