When you’ve been doing something 46 years, you get pretty good at it. Marta and Maria Grado have been in the pizza making business for 46 years at their family-owned Anna’s Pizza, and they make pretty food pizzas. Some think there are none better, anywhere. We’re among that group.
Nancy and I have been enjoying the gooiness of Anna’s pizzas for most of those 46 years. It’s where Nancy first decided that she wanted garlic, red peppers and extra parmesan cheese on all her pizzas – just like Anna’s provides.
Last week, we kindled old memories of family nights at Anna’s with our long time pals – Wayne and Elva Ferguson. We ordered two pizzas – one with everything and one with just lots of cheese and pepperoni, and we put a big dent in both pies.
We spoke to Maria when we arrived and asked if she was new here. She laughed and continued to knead the crust for a pick-up order. Anna’s does lots of take-out business. I’d rather eat a pizza in their dining room – one that’s served so hot you have to let it cool a bit or else scald your mouth with hot cheese.
Marta and Maria show no signs of slowing down. They still enjoy what they do, and they get better at it every day.
Anna’s Pizza is located at 115 Maury Avenue. Call for a take out at (434) 977-6228 for a take-out order, but if you eat there, you won’t need a reservation, just an appetite.
