Ever been fussed at by a catbird? You’ll know if it happens. Since my catbirds arrived, I have been treating them with Peanut Suet Log – a product that I discovered last year and one that catbirds find irresistible. The logs last 2 to 3 days before they’re totally pecked away. The other afternoon after work, I walked outside to the patio to enjoy an adult beverage and I heard this distinct, “Mah-yoww!” It was catbird sitting atop an empty pole where he would normally find his peanut treat – and he was not happy. He let me have it again, “Mah-yoww!”
Dutifully, I went to the shed, retrieved a fresh peanut log and the catbird was on it before I could get back to my seat and drink.
Birds love these things. I see many birds pecking off chunks and flying back to their nests to feed their young. Jays, mockingbirds, titmice, wrens, bluebirds, woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches and unfortunately – grackles and starlings – gobble it up. You can buy it at Wal-Mart or online. It’s called a Peanut Delight Log from C & S Products. It’s bird candy.
