This time tomorrow our “Golden Pond” will be complete. The hole has been dug, the liner is down, the rocks are in place and the goldfish and tadpoles will have new homes. I have not been this excited since the Dodgers swept the Yankees in the 1963 World Series. We will now have “waterfront” property.
Goldfish ponds are a little like open fires. You can’t take your eyes away. It’s serene and peaceful to just sit by the water and watch the fish fin away. I will be doubly excited when my tadpoles become frogs and perch on the lily pads.
The pond will be about 120 gallons, plenty of water to house our 8 ever-growing goldfish. We have bought a pump big enough to filter Lake Erie, so the fish should do well.
Several years ago, a small frog simply showed up at Nancy’s lily pond and it was fascinating to watch him grow and develop. On one occasion, I saw him nail a wasp in mid-air with his tongue – faster than the eye could see. But alas, when cool weather arrived, he left. Here’s hoping my frogs will stick around, perhaps even joined by some strangers. I look forward to keeping all CvilleBuzz readers up to date on our new Golden Pond.
Maybe, you too, will want one.
