I made only one resolution this year and I intend to keep it. This year, I am going to bring my own shopping bags to the grocery store. No more of those infernal plastic bags for me.
My granddaughter, Berkley, knowing that I spend more time in grocery stores than Dean Martin did in a bar – gave me three heavy duty bags for Christmas.
Last week, with bags in hand, I went to Kroger’s, bought about eighty bucks worth of groceries and put them all in those three bags. Instead of making 4 or 5 trips to the car to bring in those plastic bags, I did it in two trips. The bread was on top and never got crushed. I was delighted.
I hate those plastic grocery bags with a passion – they are awful for the environment, blowing around everywhere. Next time you’re in your car, see how many of the bags you see beside the road. They are also a bitch to get open on the rack and bread and soft stuff gets crushed while apples and tomatoes roll around in the back of the car.
No more.
The trick is to always keep the bags with you in the car. Each time now, I take the bags immediately from the kitchen to my Jeep and they ride with me in the front seat till I go to the grocery store – often 4 or 5 times a week.
The bags aren’t expensive, a couple bucks each, but you’ve got to actually use them
This year – 2020 – I will!
