As a backyard gardener, nothing makes me madder than planting a row or two of beans, only to have squirrels dig up half the beans, then rabbits taking down the survivors. I have tried squirrel and rabbit keep-out sprays and they work, sort of, until the first rain or until the varmints get really hungry.
So…..
I have bought myself 20-feet of Garden Tunnel Netting. If the squirrels and rabbits get through this line of defense, well, they deserve what they can get.
The product costs about $25 for a 10-foot section, but it should last for years, and you can move it around easily as plantings may require.
It’s easy to install and comes assembled. The netting is a tough UV-stabilized polyethylene. It slides on and off for easy access to the crops or for ventilation. The netting is 18-inches tall, allowing for the growth of plants like peas or bush beans.
As one of the netting companies says in their ads, “Plant like you mean it!”
This year, rabbits, squirrels and other pests, as the Phantom of the Opera says, “Let there be war between us.”
