Well, not exactly frogs – yet. We have two bullfrog tadpoles that should become frogs in a few weeks. Got them at Springdale Gardens near Greenville and now we’re considering a genuine pond for our potential frogs and existing pet goldfish.
I have always wanted an underground or partially underground goldfish pond, but to date, Nancy has vetoed my pond legislation. Wives have that power, you know. Mostly, she declined because she knew she would be the one to tend to the pond, clean it and keep it trash free.
So what changed?
The folks at Springdale Gardens advised us that our current 35 gallon tub we use as a pond was being pushed to the limit by our 8 ever-growing goldfish. I offered to take a couple of Nancy’s “pets” to the Rivanna River and set them free. It was basically “Sophie’s Choice” for Nancy. Which of her children would she give up?
So now we’re shopping for pond equipment and information. For this, there is no better source than Springdale Gardens. In fact, they do regular seminars on pond installation and maintenance.
If you are thinking or have ever thought about a small lily or goldfish pond in your yard, by all means contact Springdale at
540-337-4507 or springdalewatergardens.com. They are specialists in that field. Better yet, make the scenic drive to Greenville and see for yourself all they have to offer.
I’m hoping by the time my tadpoles become frogs, they will have a new pond to live in – and Nancy’s 8 children will have plenty of room in which to swim.
