Any time I see a product advertised as “squirrel proof” I have my doubts. These industrious pests spend their entire squirrelly lives trying to figure out ways to confound humans, and they generally succeed. Baffles on a pole can prevent squirrels from climbing up, but not from jumping down. Sometimes squirrels will take gigantic leaps from far away limbs or overhangs to land on top of a feeder, then rid it of expensive bird seed. They can gnaw through the wires protecting a feeder and they can squeeze their way inside a small feeder designed for birds to fly into.
But.
There is absolutely one way to deter squirrels and that’s by switching to Sizzle N Heat Bird Seed, and Suet, too. And you don’t need a baffle. The red-hot bird seed will send squirrels ‘a running, every time.
Squirrels have very sensitive noses. They say that a squirrel will follow the same exact path through limbs and trees because he can smell the trail where he’s already been
If you put one peanut in your backyard and you have squirrels, one will find it within an hour. Their noses are incredible, but one whiff of Sizzle N Heat and they’re outta’ here.
The seed is high quality seed with no filler. It’s priced about the same as other non-heat, quality seeds. It contains bits of nuts and fruits and plenty of sunflowers and hearts, so it appeals to all songbirds, but it does not appeal to squirrels. It is available (usually online) in sunflower hearts only for bluebirds and I occasionally order a bag of that.
The Sizzle N Heat Suet can also be a godsend. Squirrels will take down a log or bar of suet in no time flat, and suet is an important part of a bird feeding regimen when the birds have chicks. Birds love the Sizzle N Heat suet, maybe even more so than regular suet.
Remember the guy in the old Alka Seltzer ad, “That’s a’ spicey meatball!”
Well, when squirrels get near Sizzle N Heat, they have the same opinion. “That’s a’ spicey suet”
Switch to spicey bird seed and suet and you’ll never have to worry about squirrels again.
