It was looking pretty grim for Reid’s Super-Save Market on Preston Avenue. In the aftermath of COVID, creditors tightened the squeeze, many shelves were barren of goods and the end appeared to be in sight. Then, the community stepped in. We shopped there whenever we could, ignored the lack of many products but stocked up on things Reid’s were known for – like produce and meats – and now, the store has mostly full shelves and is back in business.
From now on, Reid’s will concentrate on the most profitable items and some of the shelves may remain bare -like Kroger’s, which often is out of basic pastas and frozen veggies, and they have no excuse.
This week, the produce at Reid’s looked amazing- it was like each apple had been hand-selected and the meat counter was teeming with goodies. I stopped in specifically to get what I never find at other grocery stores – cubed pork chops. Because they are cubed, they cook quickly and don’t become dried out. I love them. I also noticed some local baked goods and I hope they expand that line.
Many figured Reid’s could not possibly recover, but they did.
Pay them a congratulatory visit soon.
