I believe that all calories are not created equal. In my experience, caloric intake in the morning is a good thing, while pigging out at dinner and dessert is anything but a losing proposition.
As mentioned before, I weigh every morning and the scales reveal my sins or virtues from the previous day’s meals.
I am in the midst of a struggle to shed a few of those “holiday pounds” from Thanksgiving, Christmas parties and the like. I have been eating cereal with fruit or a granola bar for breakfast, which didn’t seem to make any difference to the bathroom scales – especially if I had pasta or sweets for dinner. Last Sunday, I ate a big breakfast – two fried eggs, a piece of toast and butter, a glass of tomato juice and two and a half pieces of Wrights, extra thick bacon. I lost weight the next day.
Hmmm! I followed up the next morning with an English muffin, a couple pieces of bacon, two poached eggs and juice and dropped another pound. Each day since, when I start my day with a good breakfast, I have lost weight.
Not everyone’s body reacts the same way. That’s why it’s so important to weigh every day and use some common sense about what you eat. But in my case, when I eat a hearty breakfast, it seemingly kick-starts my metabolism, which helps me burn calories naturally. I am also less hungry at lunch and can avoid binge-eating.
They say we should eat a huge meal for breakfast, a medium size meal for lunch and a small meal for dinner, and we usually do the reverse. But as long as it’s working, I am going to continue to eat good breakfasts, watch what I eat for dinner and hope for the best at weigh-in time.
